How to Set Up a Modern Law Practice and the Technology Tools You’ll Need

I had the opportunity to do a webinar for RocketMatter recently. We covered a lot of ground and provided an overview of the hardware and software necessary to get your practice up and running. It was tough to cover this much material in an hour, but the time restraint resulted in a good, quick overview of the essentials. You can watch, listen, or download by visiting the RocketMatter blog.

We’ve used RocketMatter for a while, but have decided to move away. We have always used Highrise as a CRM tool and thought that RocketMatter would serve better for case management. What I found really frustrating about RocketMatter is that it does not have email integration. I don’t know about you, but I do a lot of communication via email and it’s important to capture that in the “file” wherever that is (paper, server, cloud . . . ). Since RocketMatter can’t do that, we began investigating the Cases feature in Highrise and found that it worked quite well for us. As you may know, Highrise does email integration extremely well. So, in the end we are leaving RocketMatter because it doesn’t have email integration.

I agree that the email integration is a big issue. My system captures every incoming and outgoing email and routes it to the client file. Doing it manually wouldn’t work for us – we’d forget. It’s a critical feature. Interesting to hear that Highrise is working for you.

Unfortunately, these non-lawyer products often have more resources to invest in product development and they’re moving faster than the lawyer products. It takes some adaptation to use them, but they might be a better choice than the alternative.

Let me know how Highrise works for you as you move forward.
