You’ve learned how the the I.T. hardware and software works so now you are sentenced to answer tech questions for EVERYBODY ALL DAY LONG. It’s exhausting, especially when you have to answer the same questions over and over (sometimes for the same person). What to do?
Record a screencast next time you answer. Save it. When someone comes along with that same question, refer them to the screencast and you won’t have to spend time dealing the same question all over again.
I use a ScreenFlow on my Mac. It’s easy to use, has lots of features, and costs $99. We’ve been using Camtasia Studio on the PC. It runs about $300.
But there are other options and they are great for the routine, internal recordings you need to make to answer the office tech questions. These applications are free. They lack some of the bells and whistles of the paid products but you can count on them to get the job done.
Check out ScreenToaster and Jing Project. Both of these products are easy to use (and, again, free).
What can you do with screencasts? How about a demo of how to connect to the wireless network? How to print an envelope? How to copy a go-by form? The list is endless and really depends on the questions you receive from the novices in your office. Try to remember to open the screencast software each time a question comes your way and go ahead and record the answer.
